Welcome to the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance at the University of Arkansas. I invite you to learn more about our department and to share in our vision to emerge as a nationally competitive, student-centered research department serving Arkansas and the world.
The mission of the department is to enhance the quality of life of the residents of Arkansas, the nation, and the world through the development of scholar-practitioners in education, health, and human services. The departmental faculty hold doctoral degrees from some of the very best universities in the nation, and they comprise a close-knit academic community that is dedicated to creating a supportive educational environment that provides numerous opportunities for students to become lifelong learners as they prepare to enter their respective professions. All departmental faculty serve as advisors who provide individualized attention, designed around students’ chosen specialties, to help them meet academic, personal, and career goals.

Intramural/Recreational Sports Program
The Intramural/Recreational Sports Program is run under the auspices of the Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation and Dance Department (HKRD) and is housed in the 225,000 square foot Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building (HPER) located on campus. The four story building offers a state of the art fitness/weight training center (Donna Axum Fitness/Wellness Training Center), a natatorium with an Olympic size pool, an indoor jogging track, gymnasiums, racquetball courts, dance studio, human performance laboratory, classrooms, and offices.
