State Association Bestows Honor Award on Angie Smith-Nix

Posted on 11/20/2008

Angie Smith-Nix, clinical assistant professor and coordinator of physical education activity courses at the University of Arkansas, earlier this month received the most prestigious award given by the Arkansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

The Honor Award is presented annually to professionals for meritorious service throughout their career.

Smith-Nix, who joined the College of Education and Health Professions faculty in 1989, has served the state association in numerous capacities, including as president, chair of the Teacher of the Year Committee, chair of the Necrology Committee, chair of Higher Education, vice president of the Dance Division and vice president of the Physical Education Division. She is currently serving as the Dance Education Council Chair for the Southern District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, which will give her a major role to play in the joint Southern District/National AAHPERD Convention scheduled for April in Tampa, Fla.

“When you consider how busy our faculty members are taking care of their responsibilities on campus, it is especially noteworthy when our colleagues are also willing to step up and take on the challenges of leadership in one or more of our professional organizations,” said Sharon Hunt, head of the department of health science, kinesiology, recreation and dance in the College of Education and Health Professions. “Dr. Smith-Nix’s numerous contributions to ArkAHPERD have helped to promote our profession throughout the state and reflect positively on our department, college and university.”

Smith-Nix also represents her department on the College Council and is chair of the University Calendar Committee.
