Professional Biography:

Jack Kern is an Associate Professor in the Physical Education program in the College of Education and Health Professions. He has served in this capacity since 2002 and came to the University of Arkansas in 1996 as an Assistant Professor. Prior to coming to the University of Arkansas, Dr. Kern was an Assistant Professor at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. He worked in the public schools as a science and physical education instructor for 10 years before pursuing a career in higher education.

Academic Interests and Accomplishments:

Jack Kern has authored or co-authored 12 publications and made 40 presentations at national, regional and state conferences in his academic areas of interest. Dr. Kern oversees the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program in his department. He was selected as the College of Education and Health Professions “Outstanding Advisor” in 2002 and was chosen as the “Outstanding Teacher” in the Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, and Dance in 2003.  Dr. Kern was selected as the "Higher Educator of the Year" by the Arkansas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance for 2006.

Personal Information:

Jack Kern is married to Debbie Kern, who works as a guidance counselor and homebound tutor for the Rogers School District. He has two children, a son, Cannon, and a daughter, Kennedy. In his spare time, Dr. Kern enjoys playing tennis and working outdoors at his ranch.
